The first two weeks of school are a time to slowly and deliberately build a social community of the classroom and to create an environment where effective learning can occur all year.  The first two weeks of school will be a time to:

  • Create a climate and tone of warmth and safety.
  • Teach the schedule and routines of the pre-k day and our expectations for behavior in each child.
  • Introduce the children to the classroom and materials and teach them how to care for them.
  • Establish rules and consequences for how we will spend time together in the year ahead.
  • Give children many opportunities to model, role-play, and practice expected behaviors in order to be successful.
  • Create an environment where it is safe to make mistakes and work to fix mistakes.
  • Nurture each child’s ability to exercise independence and responsibility in work, care for materials, and care for each other.
  • Assess each child’s developmental levels through observations, curriculum and art projects.

We ask for your support, both for your child and ourselves as we build a classroom where all of the above can take place.
